February is going to be a fun month here in Panama City Beach and the local area. Mardi Gras comes early this year!
For those who are not familiar, Mardi Gras is french for Fat Tuesday and is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. So, it is the big party before lent!
While the actual date of Mardi Gras this year is February 12, Bay County will have their celebrations on the two prior weekends.
The first event is the Krewe of St. Andrews, the first weekend of February. The schedule is as follows:
January 31st Kids Ball – Time and Location TBD
February 1st Kids and Pet Parades – 4:00 pm Beck Avenue Cajun Cook-Off – Time and Location TBD
February 2nd Main Parade – 11th St & Beck Ave 2:00 pm
For more information on the St. Andrews Mardi Gras check our their website.
This parade is fun for the entire family and if you like a party, a lot of people come out for this event. All of St. Andrews is closed off and there are food vendors lined up to serve you as well as all kinds of shopping vendors. If you don’t catch enough beads during the parade you can always buy more from one of the brightly colored vendor booths!
Mardi Gras at the Beach begins the following Friday, February 8th and continues through Saturday the 9th, with fireworks and entertainment both nights at the City Pier and in Pier Park.
For the full Mardi Gras at the Beach schedule check their schedule of events. I like that this year they moved the parade to evening which makes it a lot easier for some of us to stick around, have something to eat and be there for the fireworks and bands.
Both events are family friendly, with parades just for kids plus the main parades are also exciting for the kids.
Which is your favorite parade each year? The Beach or St. Andrews?
