Even when you are traveling you have to find the time to take care of your body. Luckily, combining some exercises with discovering different beaches is something that will relax you and provide even more energy. The health benefits of sun, sand and sea, together with some physical activity, are a perfect way to start your adventurous day.
While there are some of us who prefer to do nothing more and nothing less on a beach than lie very very still and soak up the rays, try and get off your chair once in a while – it will do you a world of good.
Go for a sandy run
Jogging is one of those exercises that activates a great number of muscles in your body and helps you tone up really efficiently. By running on sandy ground you will have to engage even more muscles and control your balance with greater care than you would have to on solid ground. This way, you will achieve more in less time, but admittedly with much more effort.
If you want to take up an even bigger challenge, try running through shallow water, barefoot of course. Not only will you get a better result but your feet will also get a pleasant massage.
If running is simply too boring – try to play soccer on the beach. You will obviously still have to run a lot, but your mind won’t be focused as much on the effort.
Crawl around the beach
This exercise is very fun to do because it will remind you of your childhood and what’s more, you can set the difficulty level yourself. Basically, you simply have to get into plank position and crawl forwards, backward, or sideways on your hands and feet, with forward crawling being the easiest way to do this exercise. Thanks to the grainy texture under your hands and feet, you will improve your overall balance, strengthen the core of your body as well as work on certain arm and leg muscles that often remain neglected with regular exercises.
Imitate the surfers
Surfer get-ups will do wonders for your glutes and core and will make you feel like a real surfer! In order to do this exercise, start with a plank position where your arms are under your shoulders and your belly is touching the sand. Then, push yourself from this position into a squat with one leg in front of another as if you were balancing your posture on the surfboard. Each time you repeat this exercise, remember to switch legs. You can, of course, try the real things as well, if there are adequate waves around.
Upright crunches for great abs
If your goal is to maintain tight abs and a straight back while traveling, take the time to do a few upright crunches even while you are sunbathing. This exercise is very simple to do and sand is a great support for your body. Sit on the sand with your knees bent, feet flat, back straight and hands next to your hips. Then in one move, lean slightly back, lift your hands so that they are parallel with the surface and move your bent knees towards your chest. Simple but very effective!
Be responsible with working out
During your travels, you are likely to encounter outdoor beach gyms since these are very popular and often free to use. Still, if you plan to use the equipment in some of these gyms remember to consult with your personal fitness trainer before you embark on your journey in order to be completely sure and safe what kind of exercises you should be focusing on and are appropriate for your general fitness state. You would not want to ruin your fun time traveling with unfortunate injuries, would you?
The most important thing when it comes to being healthy and energetic is to fuel your mind with positive thoughts. That way your greatest motivator to indulge in the wonders of the sand, sun and sea while taking care of your body will be yourself.
