Tex Mex Has Come to the Beach!

We recently discovered a new place for Mexican or rather, Tex Mex, on the beach.  Muy Wayneos, on Hwy 79 at the Y opened in January according to their Facebook page but they are still getting the word out.  A few weeks ago we tried it for the first time.  Then a second and a third..

I have been missing simple, taqueria style, Mexican, since I came here from Northern California in 2009. This place comes close to the experience and the food is delicious!

We have tried a few items off the menu.  First, my husband had a lunch special of enchilada casserole (pictured), which I did not get to try because he snuck off for lunch the minute he found out there was a new Mexican place close to his workplace.  But he sent me the photo below and told me that it was out of this world delicious!  Unfortunately for me, they haven’t had it again when I’ve gone but I am watching their Facebook page for updates!

Both times I’ve gone, I had the Big Bernie’s Burrito (the BBB) once with chicken and the second time with brisket.  For $8 you get a huge tortilla with chicken, ground beef or brisket (the menu states ground beef and I am not sure if they upcharged for the chicken or brisket but I wouldn’t have minded if they did).  They top the meat with pinto beans, cheese and sour cream.  I like to have tomatoes added on mine.

We’ve had the cheese dip and chips and also the chips and salsa.  We love the cheese dip best!

The service is always top-notch and Shane, one of the owners, always remembers us.  I am sure we are not unique and anyone who becomes a regular at Muy Wayneos will get the family-like treatment.

The little taqueria also serves breakfast and they are open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, offering Karaoke most Saturdays.

They also deliver to most of the beach with no minimum charge.  If they have to cross the bridge into town or travel farther West than The Carousel there is a $20 minimum.

The interior is super casual with a walk-up counter for ordering take out.  If you are eating in, your order will be taken at the table.

Beer is sold by the bottle and there might be wine-based margaritas if my memory is correct.  Not sure about wine..

Muy Wayneos is located at
303 S. Arnold Dr. at the Y and next to Sandbar.
